Tag: getting to know America in the absence of the big brother I would have liked to have

Today

Ate lunch and the usual health supplements in the morning.

Last night I was doing the horizontal row exercise while sitting on the floor with my back inclined backwards.

I couldn’t set up the horizontal row pulley system; I suspect it is because I don’t have enough space: technically, because the braided wire cable is long, there must be another pulley at the top of the rack, besides the pulley at waist level.

Even if the latter was possible, there is insufficient space in the room for me to push back enough to seat myself properly on a bench so that I can achieve the same comfort and isolation of exercise as I did in a commercial gym. Hence did I do the horizontal row diagonally.

I also did some bicep curls using the ez bar, because I noticed my triceps were very large in comparison to the biceps.

I was testing out some metal hooks if they could be substituted for the pulley, but noticed that the weight from the weight plates would tear the black synthetic sleeve that encased the steel braided wire. I would think it is quite dangerous, since I could easily cut myself on the wire if it frays in such a way that I cannot see the frayed wire as I rush about the workout.

Furthermore, my using of a pulley system means I have to constantly pay attention to the hooking and unhooking of the carabiners when I change weight plates or change the position of the pulley. Especially when I rush.

I played with changing the position of the pulley because I managed to find an old anchor screw bolt and nut that I could attach to the holes in the rack. It has a screw thread on one end, and an eyelet on the other end. It was very dusty and so, seemed rather unwanted: in other words, it looked a little sad—I had felt, much like me. There also seemed to be one of that only, in the hardware shop. I didn’t know the size of the hole it is supposed to fit, but it looked like it might, so I bought it.

So what I did: I attached the anchor screw bolt to the top side of the rack, hooked the carabiner through the eyelet, then hooked the pulley to the carabiner. Putting the anchor screw bolt at the top inner corner of the squat rack meant that I could use the pulley and cable system diagonally, which technically can be used for single arm pectoral exercises—I am not sure, if I can find another of that same anchor screw bolt since it looked so ancient.

Strangely, the anchor screw bolt looked a lot like the cross above the Changi Chapel. (Edit: it is a different cross from the Changi Chapel, but there is a cross that looks like the anchor screw bolt. Then again, you would only be interested in that if you like graphic design.) But, I also tend to think of the squat rack as something a big brother designed for his younger brother.

I also did up the pulley system because it would be lighter in weight loading, because I do have a loading limit.

Thank you for showing me the importance of a nice letterhead. In those days, it was unheard of. Even now, they don’t notice
