There is a research paper of the same title by John Durham Peters.
I found out about it because I first read his books, then looked at the bibliography, then went to the journals to read further, since books are well, condensed versions of multiple papers.
The aspects of “Witnessing” are very fascinating for further research into legal studies. For that I had to delve a little into Roman law; the insights, I shared with my local professors, because I do like to “check-in” on what is their latest research agenda. Why? Because with the advent of distance learning, and communication being purely textual, there could be an issue with discussion in the virtual classroom. Even then, with video, the presence is not material.
I suppose, that it is partly because I read outside of the curriculum, delving deeper into the work of professors like John Durham Peters and Harvey Mansfield, that I lament very much the experience of having done work for a small local business, only to be terminated because the Filipinos who are sloppy and cannot spell are cheaper.
